About Us
"Behind every great golf course is a bold designer with a vision."
Contour Golf Design Group is committed to providing high quality golf course design and landscaping solutions. This might involve developing a course masterplan, the re-design of several holes, changes to a course layout or the design of a completely new course.
We understand the imperative of listening closely to the needs of our clients. We have a reputation for thinking 'outside the box' in order to achieve client objectives with innovative design outcomes.
Contour Golf believe in a hands-on approach to golf course design. We are involved at each stage of the project to ensure that milestone deliverables are achieved on time and on budget. We work closely with other project consultants, including irrigation, shaping and construction specialists. A smooth-running project is underpinned by clear and concise design documentation. Our Director, Ben Davey, will also fine-tune the design on site as part of our construction supervision to get the very best end result. When required, we can also host information sessions for Club members at various stages of a project.
We value being a team player and believe that the true sign of a successful project is when everyone involved is proud of the end result and can celebrate this together.

Ben Davey, Director
Ben Davey is Director of Contour Golf Design Group. Raised in Melbourne, Ben learnt to play golf on the internationally-famous Melbourne Sandbelt, where his passion for the game of golf began.
In 1996, Ben started his golf design career with Melbourne-based Cashmore Golf Design, where he gained experience working with Tony Cashmore on respected courses including 13th Beach Golf Links on the Bellarine Peninsula, the Henley Course at Heritage Golf Club and The Dunes Golf Links on the Mornington Peninsula. As Senior Designer at Cashmore Golf, Ben went on to play a major role in the company’s expansion into Korea, Vietnam and China.
In early 2009, Ben set up Davey Shearer Golf Design. While implementing significant design changes on many Australian golf courses, such as Rottnest Island Golf Course and Mildura Golf Course, Davey Shearer also targeted the golf market in China. With Ben as the lead Golf Course Architect and former pro-golfer Bob Shearer as Design Consultant, Davey Shearer completed to acclaim five golf courses across China over seven years – more than any other Australian golf course architecture company working in China during that time.
Following on from this success, Contour Golf Design Group evolved in 2016. We design courses to be challenging, rewarding and enjoyable to play and are supported by a team of international shaping, irrigation and construction specialists, who have worked with Ben during his 20+ years in the golfing industry.
Ben has a Bachelor of Science (Geological and Earth Sciences) and Graduate Diplomas in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture, all from the University of Melbourne. He is a full member of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects and, for the past ten years, he has been co-editor of the Society’s annual journal, Golf Architecture. Ben is a long term member of Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
